it isn't necessarily bad, though it certainly can be. Some pet stores have high ethics, and keep everything on the up-and-up. But many pet stores buy their puppies from 'puppy mills", and that demand keeps the puppy mills running. It can be challenging to find a truly reputable pet store, or you can go the purebred-with-papers route, but that is very expensive. Try the pound or animal shelter - that may be the best alternative all the way around. if you do that then you would be saving many dogs :)
