once the sound barrier has been broken it disrupts the ground making it more likely to crash, as you get faster the car will try to take off so you have to ground it and you can only do so much to the car to do this, making the car lighter would probably make it go faster but if you take away too much of the car you wouldn't have anywhere to put the engine and such and still keep it all streamlined. this is just an educated guess. .
