Horses that are darker in color are not as likely to get sunburned or have eye problems due to pink skin under their coat. Paint horses are a good example. The underlying skin beneath the white hairs is pink. This includes the horse's face. Where the hair is thinner the sun can burn the skin just as it does with humans. If you have a horse that has excessive white markings, especially on the face and muzzle, it is a good idea to apply a gentle sunblock. Sunblocks made for infants work well and will be gentle to your horse's sensitive skin. Be very careful around the eyes so as not to get sunblock directly in the eyes.
A brown horse that is nearly black is either referred to as a dark bay or a brown horse.

First, you should stablish a relation by not being on your horse (scrub him, give him food,...) . When you and the horse have a good relation, if you mount him you'll feel safe.
