Well... it might be nice to know what He looks like, so that when He comes back to earth, we can recognize Him.

Unfortunately for modern professing Christianity, however, those ancient artist renditions of Him in all the Renaissance paintings - AIN'T HIM!

Yet, the whole world has gravitated to them and thinks that's what Jesus looks like. Some folks even have one hanging on a wall in their home.

Jesus got lost in a crowd more than once because He looked like any other Jew in the crowd. But, the Jesus portrayed in those paintings could be picked out in a packed football stadium crowd with a set of ten-power binoculars by anyone.

That Jesus is a phony... a counterfeit.

If Christians need to know what He looks like (and they would be wise to)... it's best to go to the source, The Bible... and believe the description provided by God:

"...in the midst of the seven candelsticks One like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and His hairs were WHITE like wool, as WHITE AS SNOW; and His eyes were as a FLAME OF FIRE; and His feet like unto BRASS, as if they burned in a furnace; and His voice as THE SOUND OF MANY WATERS. And He had in His right hand seven stars: and out of His mouth went a SHARP TWOEDGED SWORD: and His countenance was AS THE SUN SHINETH IN HIS STRENGTH." (Rev.1:13-16)

But, then... by the time Christians see Him... the WHOLE WORLD WILL KNOW WHO HE IS, TOO:

"...then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and ALL THE TRIBES OF THE EARTH SHALL MOURN, and THEY SHALL SEE the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Matt.24:30)

The prophecy before this says that the earth will be darkened... and gloomy:

"...Immediately after the Tribulation of those days SHALL THE SUN BE DARKENED, and THE MOON SHALL NOT GIVE HER LIGHT, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken..." (verse 29).

It's going to be awfully dark and unsettled on earth just before Jesus returns. So, while it may be hard to recognize the one standing next to you about that time... when you see the SUN that's SHINING IN HIS STRENGTH, approaching the earth in the clouds - THAT'S THE LORD, Jesus Christ, the King of kings.

That's what He looks like.

Why is it not important for Christians to know what Jesus looks like?

Because then christians might be able to picture him doing all the things he did but some of those deads are quite sad and he gets hurt/injured. Also it might make you think about him on the cross being crucified. And that is not good to picture someone being crucified! (alternate answer) Given that Jesus was never photographed during his lifetime and did not have his portrait painted, and the New Testament does not include any description of his appearance, we have no way of knowing what Jesus looked like, and since we don't know, we guess. If it were for some reason important to know exactly what Jesus looked like, presumably Jesus would have arranged for this knowledge to be available.
