Advent is a season of preparation for the coming of the Lord. Penitence goes naturally hand in hand with this preparation. On Christmas we commemorate the birth of Christ. As post Resurrection Christians we know the birth of Christ led to the Sacrifice of Christ and ultimately His Resurrection and Ascension - breaking the bonds of death and opening the gates of Heaven. In this fuller light then, we also prepare during Advent for the Second Coming of Christ and it is in this particular preparation that we look within ourselves to determine if we are ready to meet the One who wrought our Salvation. The Sacrament of Confession is the final step in this preparation, cleansing us anew and assuring Our Lord will know us when He comes.

∙ 12y agoThe best celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ is attending Mass and receiving Him in Holy Communion. Christmas Day is a holy day of obligation. In fact in the Philippines before Christmas we try to attend a lot of Masses and receive a lot of Communions through the nine-day novena masses called "Simbang Gabi"
As we prepare our house to receive a special guest, the more we should prepare our hearts to receive the most special guest of all, Jesus Christ who is celebrating His birthday on Christmas day. After a good confession our sins are forgiven and our hearts our purified, ready to receive Jesus as we go to Mass and receive Holy Communion on Christmas day and in the Christmas season.
