It is learning outside of the classroom - allowing kids to see and touch things they are learning about in the isolation of the classroom (like visiting a zoo during an animal study or even bush survival in the bush or water safety), or allowing kids the opportunity to practice different lifeskills outside of the classroom (cooperation, tolerance, patience, resilience, acceptance, problem solving). It gives some children an opportunity to shine as leaders or experts, when they are not in a classroom. A field trip is not a holiday - it is a learning opportunity in a different environment.
