At the core, veterinarians want to help improve animals' and peoples' lives through ensuring the healthy and wellbeing of the animals that people come into contact with. However, each veterinarian also has more reasons than this, which can range from "I love working with owners to help their pets" to "I love figuring out what is making a pet sick" to "I enjoy the challenge of working in a medical field".
