There is more to it then that. Some processor's that have a speed of 3.0GHz can process less data then one that is 1.7 GHz.
To answer your question, because you could spend a thousand dollars and get a slower
computer then one for 700.00.

It is very important because processing speed is a measurement of how fast your processor (CPU) can process data, and it gives a good idea of how fast the computer can run. There are other factors too, such as RAM and the video card for graphics performance.
It's also important to consider the kind of processor inside the computer.
There are some built for especially for laptops, and processors can be classified by how many cores they use. A dual-core processor has enhanced performance over a single one, for example.

∙ 7y agoIt is of no importance at all to the average computer user. All it tells you is the clock that the machine runs on and there are many other variables (both hardware and software) that affect the actual performance of the computer in actual use on real world problems. Without accounting for these variables, processor speed will be very misleading.
For many people processor speed is important as a "boasting number" so that they can claim to be better than another person!
