I guess the most straightforward answer here is that if you try to do someone else's job , you may neglect vital aspects of your own role which will not go unnoticed by your employers, especially if something major gets overlooked. The other side to this of course is the growing trend towards multi-tasking, multi -skilled approaches where rather than having one job, the employee is flexible and skilled enough to step into other roles as required.
