Common Law, as related to marriage, allows for a marriage to automatically happen after the couple has been together a minimum amount of time (usually 7 years). When this law is in place, the couple is provided the same legal considerations and benefits as a formally married couple. Many states in the United States (Illinois for one) do not acknowledge common law marriages. ---- Cops wouldn't have jobs and people would do every thing that is against the law. There would be no High Court and the world would be like one giant war without law. So, law is very important!
