Why is it necessary for larger animals to have a digestive system?

because if they dident then non of the vitamins or minerals from the food eaten could be extracted and taken around the body, also if they dident digest the food would stay in the stomach and just stay there, therefore eventually they would not be able to eat any more (as the food is just sitting in the stomach and it will fill because its not going anywhere) which will mean they will die, also if food is left rotting in the stomach then the animal would also gain poisons from all the decay and this would be sent around the body and also eventually kill the animal.

All multicellular organisms have a digestive system, even the ones that are too small to be seen. It's the place where the "food" is broken down to molecular levels so that the body (mostly the liver in higher organisms) can convert those molecules into the ones that the body cells can consume.
