Thin paper containers can withstand the heat of boiling water because they have minimal insulation and can transfer heat effectively. Cardboard containers, on the other hand, have thicker layers and more insulation, which makes it difficult for the heat to transfer efficiently, resulting in the cardboard being unable to withstand the heat and potentially catching fire.

How to separate salt and sand from water and calculate the percent of mass?

You add water to the container then you stir, the water and salt would form a solution and sand would settle on the bottom of the container. You get another container and place on a filter paper then you pour the water into it, which would lead to the sand staying in the filter paper and the solution, which is made of salt and water, would be left. Finally, you place the container on a source of heat which will cause the water to evaporate and salt staying in the container. Now weigh the residue and find the percentage.

What color does a container have to be for water to be heated as much as possible?

The colour of a container does not impact how hot water can be in it. Water boils at 100 C and the temperature rises no higher. Super hot water can only be produced in sealed high pressure vessels usually made of steel or similar material.

Can fireworks light in a cardboard box?

Assuming that the box has at least one airway and the fireworks are not all on top of each other, it is very possible to light fireworks in a cardboard box. Just try to make sure that the cardboard box is outside, and that the box has nothing in it, like cobwebs or even water stains.

What happens when alkali metals react with cold water?

How do you separate the different parts of mixture of sand and salty water?

You add water to the container then you stir, the water and salt would form a solution and sand would settle on the bottom of the container. You get another container and place on a filter paper then you pour the water into it, which would lead to the sand staying in the filter paper and the solution, which is made of salt and water, would be left. Finally, you place the container on a source of heat which will cause the water to evaporate and salt staying in the container. As a first step, you can let the mixture settle and remove the water from the top. This may be adequate for some applications. You can use different sized sieves and or filter papers to get to the next stage of purity. Reverse osmosis is a third technique used. Boiling and condensing the water (distilled water) would be another way.

Why is it possbile to boil water in a thin paper container but not in a cupboard containers?

Paper is a poor conductor of electricity. Paper is thinner than cardboard and permits more heat to travel through to the water. Because the cardboard prevents the heat from travelling it is likely to heat and catch fire.

Why is placing a paper label on a juice container is an indirect use of water?

Because by placing a paper label on a juice container you are indirectly using water already because you need water to make paper.

Can an object made of cardboard float?

Usually - yes. Objects made of cardboard can float - at least until they become saturated with water. Even a sheet of cardboard will float initially. If the cardboard is coated with something that prevents the cardboard underneath from soaking up water, the object can continue to float for quite a while. Once it becomes saturated with water, cardboard will have more difficulty floating. Since it is made from paper - which derives from wood pulp - even when wet, it will tend to float rather than sink because wood is usually a bit less dense than water. Since it may not be JUST paper, it may depend on what else was added as to whether it will still float when soggy. It all depends on the average density. Note that as it becomes soggy, cardboard may tend to disintegrate - at which point it would just be a mass of mush rather than recognizable as cardboard.

Can paper be frozen?

Yes. Now a days food container along with foods are frozen. Most of paper grades contain 2 -10% free water and that water will also be frozen but it will not affect paper properties.

What does cardboard get recycled into?

The life of a cardboard box begins in the forest where softwood trees are cut down, stripped of their bark, and turned into wood chips. These wood chips are reduced even further into cellulose fibers in the pulping process. Natural oils are separated by adding fibers with water and creating a slurry. Now the fibers can be pressed and rolled into paper. Every step of the way has a large carbon footprint from burning fossil fuels in transportation, manufacturing, and processing. There is also a large amount of water used and wastewater produced. After using the cardboard box for its intended purpose, it can be recycled and used in the slurry process along with natural fibers. It might also end up in a compost bin or landfill. One ton of cardboard requires 3 tons of wood, which is a good reason to reuse as many times as possible and then recycle. BoxGiver is a great place to give your cardboard boxes away.
