Silence is important in libraries because if your silent, you and other people can concentrate on what your reading, if theres a lot of noise, then your mind wont focus on what your reading and would be distracted by the commotion.

Silence is important in a library to create a conducive environment for reading, studying, and focusing. It helps reduce distractions and allows individuals to concentrate on their work. Additionally, silence promotes respect for others who are also using the library for learning or research purposes.

Libraries are often used as reading and study spaces, so low volumes are generally quite appreciated. The noise level that's allowed within a library depends on a number of factors, including the type of library and the specific location within that library.

For example, in a university library, there may be entire floors that are classified as "Silent Floors", where users prohibited from talking, conversing, or using cell phones. Other floors within that same library may be deemed as "Study Floors" or "Quiet Floors", where whispered conversation is acceptable. There may also be areas, rooms, or entire floors that are dedicated to "Group Study", where groups of students can gather to work on assignments. In these locations, conversation is acceptable, and noise levels are generally higher.

Each library has its own policy regarding noise levels. A public library, for example, may not require silence, but will ask a patron (or group of patrons) to tone down their volume if they become too disruptive to others. Noise may be expected and tolerated in some areas, such as in the teen section, but discouraged and enforced in other areas, such as within designated study spaces.
