Why is it really hot in the desert?

Not all deserts are hot. It depends on location. The Antarctic Desert is bitterly cold all year. Some deserts, such as the Gobi may be hot in the summer but very cold in winter. Others, such as the Atacama, are peasant all year, never too hot nor too cold. Even the hot subtropical desert is only very hot in the summer but the rest of the year is usually quite mild.
