plants are about the lowest organisms on the food web, so, organisms eat them anther one eats that one, and everyone ends up eating someone the fed itself from a plant. plants are sustainable because of photosyntesis.

∙ 13y agoVirtually. The base of the trophic pyramid is made up of primary producers that provide energy to all the trophic levels above it. Most primary producers get their energy from light, converting light energy to organic compounds via photosynthesis, and therefore all trophic levels that feed on them are dependent on light. There are, however, some organisms that can live independent of light (chemoautotrophs). They derive their energy from chemical reactions. However these organisms are rare and are also rarely preyed upon due to their hostile living environments, therefore supplying no trophic levels above them.
