The Dead Sea has the highest concentration of mineral salts of any body of water in the world. Because of this concentration, the human body will not sink into the waters as the human body is composed of less minerals and more fresh water. Swimming in so much concentrated mineral matter is difficult simply because the body is not accustomed to pushing against the solids in the water. Think of it this way...The Dead Sea has so much minerals in it that it is almost like lying on a water bed. The concentration acts almost like the rubber "envelope" that the water bed has to contain the water. It's tough to swim in a water bed because of the rubber cover.

Would you float better in salt or fresh water?

You float better in saltwater. For instance, the Dead Sea is so salty that you cannot sink or even swim in it. You can only float on top. It does not feel wet, but more like warm, runny honey. It is extremely bitter if you are unlucky enough to taste the Potassium-heavy water. Strangely, Dead Sea does not have a salty taste.

Which is saltier the Dead Sea or the great Salt Lake?

It is the Dead Sea. It's so salty, that you can float with no effort on it. If you have any open cuts, well, let's say it won't exactly tickle. Plus the reason you can float is because the salt in it makes the water denser the more salt it has the denser it is! Also the denser the water the closer to the bottom it will be! Aidan and Kyle
