If you are using a gameboy - i have no idea But if you are using a computerized version then it's because something called SFX is turned on.
To turn it off go to "options" at the top left corner, "Video," then "disable SFX"
This should work... it might be the same in a gameboy but I don't own one so I wouldn't know.
