Yes it can, well, in certain sports like football or Basketball. It's rough play and someone could say, pull at an earring, or could choke you of you ha a necklace on and they were say, trying to tackle you. I would suggest the rougher sports to be NO jewlery. But for more "peaceful" sports, like Golf, or croquet, it's perfectly fine.
