∙ 10y agoBecause meiosis is when the cells divide to form cells that have half of the original chromosome number, thus the number of chromosomes is reduced. For example a cell that has 6 chromosomes that divides by meiosis will produce only 3 chromosomes in each of the four daughter cells.
Meiosis is refered to as reduction division because the number of chromosomes in the daughter cells has been reduced. Meiosis produces four daughter cells that have half the number of chromosomes as the original cell.
