Because this is the process necessary to reproduce - a key component of this process is the mixing up of two sets of DNA... so you get variety (this is necessary for evolution and survival).

Mitosis is cell division but there is no variety. Every cell in your body has the same DNA - just different genes are expressed based on the presence of chemicals that turn them on or not.
