They are the first organisms to appear on the bare rocks in an area after a volcanic eruption, fire, or rock slide has occurred.
They are called pioneer plants because they are often the first species to inhabit a barren area. Mosses grow well in these barren areas because of the lack of competition for light, nutrients and space with other taller species. With time, as taller species establish in that area, mosses will lose out and die off. Hope that answers your question! ~Rashid

Because they are the first species to inhabit a barren area.
Because they are the first plants to come bare land, or disturbed soil and the are the start of new plants

because they are plants
If we look back at the basics, all that it takes for succesion to occur is a pioneer species. In the tundra, the most common pioneer species is arguably mosses and lichens. Other plants will grow off of the pioneer species.
it can either be A.song birs and squirrels B.deer and black bears C.lichens and algae or D.oak and hickory trees
tundra
Are mossed and ferns climax community or pioneer species
Temperate climate at alpine zone
Because Lichens and Mosses grow on barren rocks and help in the formation of soil.
mosses and lichens
Either lichens,legumes,grasses,or hemlock trees
organic acids
Lichens and mosses help to form soil by breaking down the rocks that they are attached to.
Plnats grow on rocks like lichens and mosses.

Lichens and mosses erode rocks by producing acids. These acids lead to the deterioration of rocks, such as limestone and marble.
In mosses, lichens, and liverworts
The tundra climate is cold all year and includes mosses and lichens. There is permafrost and the temperature is always cold.
I don't think so because in my science text book it states that mosses and lichens are the first organisms to start growing in an environment again and pioneer species have to be the first species to arrive. After the mosses grow then die decaying matter builds up on them and other plants can grow. Hope this helped :)
No...grass, herbs, lichens and mosses
