check the thermostat or the fan motor could be the problem or a leak in radiator. just a thought
you could have the 3.0 L - " Vulcan " - over head valve ( OHV ) engine or the 3.0 L - " duratec " - dual over head cam ( DOHC ) engine in your 1997 Ford Taurus
On a 1997 Ford Taurus : The 3.0 " Vulcan " V6 engine is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine The 3.0 " Duratec " V6 engine is a Dual Over Head Cam design engine
Assuming that you aren't over-heating, check the fuel pump. My 1999 Taurus used to stall/ refuse to start when it was hot due to a faulty pump.
If the engine is over-heating at the time the coolant is spewing (great word by the way!), see "Related Questions" below for more ideas on causes. The water pump is definitely a prime suspect / cause...
A thermostat is one cause of over heating engines. The "Related Question" below lists a few other suspects to investigate that can also contribute to overheating.
Looks like they just unbolt by two bolts and go over the spark plug.
I realize this is written for a Ford Taurus; however, the steps should be exactly the same:http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52556
why is my 1997 chev blazer over heating
In a 1997 Ford Taurus : The 3.0 L , " Vulcan " V6 engine ( which is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine ) has ( 1 timing CHAIN ) Also , the 3.0 L , " Duratec " V6 engine has ( 1 timing CHAIN to each cylinder head , so there are 2 timing CHAINS )
The 1999 Ford Taurus does not have a radiator cap. Coolant is added by using the over flow bottle instead of a radiator cap.
Does it turn over?Is it getting fuel and spark?
On a 1997 Ford Taurus : The 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine has ( 1 ) timing CHAIN The 3.0 liter " Duratec " V6 engine , which is a Dual Over Head Cam design , has ( 1 timing CHAIN to each cylinder head , so there are 2 timing CHAINS )
