could be a few things, start cheap- make sure the metal is still on the rotary button, and that the contacts are on the distributor cap. These go bad quite often. if all is good there ohm out the coil. If all ohm readings are in spec then it is probably the unit inside the distributor.
First thing I would check is the coil. Runs about $20 from an auto parts store.
Ford Probe's are known for water getting in the distributor cap. If it happens on a day that when its wet outside check your distributor cap to see if theres any water in it.
Manufacturer recommended spark plug gap should be .044 I beleive. Keep in mind that some plugs come pre gapped and dont need any gapping, depending on which ones you get. -Shaun
Assuming you mean no spark at the spark plugs; check for spark at the coil - if you have spark, then remove the distributor cap and check the rotor and contacts for corrosion. If you don't have spark at the coil, then either the coil is bad or you have a broken wire in the system. (Coils seldom go bad but there is always that possibility). Hope this helps.
