The motor has 1 0r 2 condensors on it look like tubes on the side of the motor often covered with a little box these put an extra surge of power through the motor as it starts possibly 1 or both of these are broken down, Check with your pool shop or the motors manufacturer.

lightning ,sand in the windings, bad winding, cheap motor, wrong impeller(to big),bad seal(leaks water into motor), bad bearings, blocked air flow(to cool the motor) and IMPROPPER power to the motor. you should keep motor clean of grass and the such and up off the ground and away from the drip edge of your roof., it can handle rain just not all that's off the roof of your house !

If it is cutting off every few minutes then it's probably due to the motor over heating. There is a thermal over load located inside the motor that turns the motor off when it gets to hot, a precaution to protect the motor from further damage. However depending on the age of the motor it may have to be replaced at this point anyway. Recommend consulting a pool repair tech

I would say 10 yards easy. if the ground is flat.. if the pump is lower that the pool ? it may take a bigger pump ..use pvc. and never use tread tape on a plastic pump ! your pool pump repair guy in longwood fl.

How is an above ground pool pump different from an in ground pool pump?

In simplest terms, an above ground pool pump is a flooded suction pump, which means the water level must be higher than the pump for it to operate, and an inground pump has the ability to draw water up from a level lower than the pump. The engineering and structure of these two different types of pumps is what makes them work the way they do. This means that, in a typical installation, you could use an inground-specific pump on an above ground pool, but not an above ground pump on an inground pool with the water level below the pump.
