Animals , even people sometimes have irritations that they try to cure by biting or sucking the affected part. People bite nails, this is certainly not auto-cannibalism . Animals will sometimes gnaw, gouge, or eat away body parts- such as legs, to get out of traps. This is more common in larger animals like say raccoons or wolverines.
