Jazz Music got its start in 19th century New Orleans. It was the only place in the America where slaves were allowed to play their drums. They held sessions on Sundays in Congo Square to the delight of all. The drums formed the foundation and other European instruments were also incorporated to form the music that came to be known as jazz.
