It would be fair to say that most all desire something after and hopefully better than this physical existence. Christians are promised eternal life in the spiritual world as sons and daughters of God (see 2 Corinthians 6:18). We will be above the angels who are now a bit above us (see 1 Corinthians 6:3). Simply put, it is much better than to perish completely.
Jesus spoke to a religious leader about our being changed at His 2nd Coming. Suggest you read the Gospel of John, especially the 3rd chapter.
