If you take too much nitrous oxide you risk falling unconscious and/or suffocating from the lack of oxygen. People have died this way. Dizziness, which might make you act carelessly or dangerously. Heavy regular use of nitrous oxide can lead to a deficiency of vitamin B12 and to a form of anaemia.

Nitrous oxide can be dangerous because when inhaled in large amounts, it can cause lack of oxygen to the brain, leading to asphyxiation. Chronic use can also lead to vitamin B12 deficiency and nerve damage. Additionally, recreational use can impair judgment and coordination, increasing the risk of accidents or injuries.
