North Korea is not going to bomb the United States. North Korean War Ministers and Generals know that any attack on the US will result in North Korea being flattened into a pancake.
The posturing is for a diplomatic response. The North Koreans have always desired bilateral negotiations with the United States because they believe that those negotiations would be more prestigious as well as giving them more benefits. The United States has always demanded that North Korea engage in six-party talks (US, N Korea, S Korea, Japan, China, and Russia) in order for the other countries to limit North Korean demands and come to a regional consensus. The North Koreans think that if they are crazy enough, the USA will give into their demands.

What would happen if the US bombed North Korea's nuclear site?
North Korea would retaliate by sending artillery shells at Seoul, South Korea and within 2 hr. the largest city in South Korea will be leveled. North Korea would also deploy their troops across the DMZ and invade South Korea. In response to the artillery the US will be forced to bomb the artillery guns and defend South Korea's border. China will also step in and aid North Korea by cutting off trade to the US and readying their nukes to fire on South Korea, Japan or the US. The US would loss respect in the eyes of the world for this attack and this may cause Iran to attack US allies ultimately plunging us into WWIII.
