it is cheaper because for deep mining ,the more deeper the minerals lies, the more difficult it is to discover and the more expensive to mine

Why do you think that mining on land is less costly than mining in the deep ocean is?

Mining on land is less costly than mining in the deep ocean because it takes more equipment to go down to the bottom of the ocean, and all of that equipment costs more money than what they use on land.

How do surface mining and underground mining differ?

Surface mining occurs close to the surface (less than a mile deep), while underground mining is underground.

What are two reasons why open-pit mines are more common in western Canada than underground mines?

Open pit mining is used when the materials being mined are closer to the surface. It is safer to do open pit mining than it is to do underground mining. Underground mining is only used for mining hard minerals.

What is different deep mining and opencast mining?

rocks and minerals are easy to find and extract when they outcrop on or near the Earth's surface. All that needs to be done id to clear the vegetation and soil from the surface and start digging. Such mining is called open cast mining. deep mining involves sinking a vertical shaft down to the rock layer containing minerals, making a horizontal tunnel following the mineral layer, extracting the minerals by digging done by machines and miners, bringing the loose rock from the mine and piling it up on waste heaps on the surface and transporting the minerals. deep mining is more dangerous than open cast as miners work underground while in open cast workers work on the surface.

Is open pit mining safer than underground mining?

it is, because if underground the mine can cave in.

Is surface mining is less coast and inexpensive?

Surface mining is MUCH less expensive than underground mining. Usually. In some cases, underground mining is used because the substance being mined is just too deep to have a surface mine. I was just in a silver mine that is more than 5,000 feet deep. If the mine had to remove a mile of rock to get to the silver, it would not be worth mining. In THAT case, underground mining is less costly.

What are the cons of surface mining?

The advantages of surface mining are: * It is cheaper to extract the ore or metal than underground mining * Less chance of workers dying from toxic fumes, therefore it is safer unlike underground mining. * It is also faster The disadvantages of surface mining are: * That it destroys the landscape and environment * Effects the habitats of fauna potentially effecting the existing ecosystem in that area * Flora is destroyed * Causes noise, air and water pollution

Why is underground mining is more dangerous than open-cut mining?

Because of the risk of tunnels collapsing and pockets of natural gas exploding.

How is coal taken from the ground?

By undergroung mining or by open-cast mining, as are all mined minerals.

What is the difference of surface mining and subsurface mining?

Surface mining is safer and easier than subsurface mining.Surface mining does more damage to the environment than subsurface.Surface mining creates more of a mess then subsurface or open cut mining.ON TH OTHER HAND-Subsurface mining is very dangerous.Subsurface mining allows you to retreive minerals from underground.Subsurface mining requires you to go underground, where you will have very little air.

What are two types of coal mining?

Surface mining is used to produce most of the coal because it is less expensive than underground mining. Surface mining can be used when the coal is buried less than 200 feet underground. In surface mining, giant machines remove the top soil and layers of rock known as "overburden" to expose the coal seam. Once the mining is finished, the dirt and rock are returned to the pit, the topsoil is replaced, and the area is replanted.Underground mining, sometimes called deep mining, is used when the coal is buried several hundred feet below the surface. Some underground mines are 1,000 feet deep. To remove coal in these underground mines, miners ride elevators down deep mine shafts where they run machines that dig out the coal.

Why is open cut mining safer than under ground mining?

Because there is no roof to support in an open cut whereas in underground mining there may be a very large overburden load leading to very high stresses in the tunnel roof. This may require support and there is the potential for a roof collapse to occur.
