Air Conditioning?

Every year summer approaches and the scorching hot weather comes to pay us a visit for approximately 4 months (May-September). Survival of the summer would not be able to happen if it wasn’t for air conditioning. Schools, malls, libraries, churches, and countless other facilities are able to maintain business in the summer time thanks to air conditioning. Its a wonder that the invention of air conditioning is only a little over a century old. It strikes the average person as fascinating that people all throughout the history of man survived sticky, humid temperatures without the cool, comfortable air dispersed from a air conditioning unit. Air conditioning units were a popular and grateful invention for middle and lower class America especially since they were the ones doing most of the grunt work. Factories soon acquired air conditioners to keep their workers satisfied and comfortable during their shifts. No employer wants a angry worker. Improving the environment by making it cooler to work in during the summer weather meant increase work productivity. Upper class Americans pretty much ignored the invention of the air conditioner when it was first invented. They thought they didn’t need it and that it was beneath them. Primarily due to the reason that the lower class and middle class, to whom they were superior took advantage of the air conditioner and they had to prove their elite status by not using it. Research has proven that women who prefer warmer temperatures tend to turn up the thermostat while men who prefer colder temperatures tend to turn down the thermostat. Air conditioners have their benefits. They make people comfy and allow them to be more productive in everyday life during the summer. It would be pretty hard to sleep and get ready for work in the morning laying in the bed in 95 degree heat. Along with the positives come negatives of air conditioner use. Research has discovered that people with atleast 20 years of air conditioner use have reported membrane irritation, breathing difficulties, irritated skin, and constitutional/neurological symptoms such as headache and fatigue. Unfortunately little research has been dedicated to this problem, and the only people who are aware are those who are involved in indoor environmental research.
