Slender is so scary because it taps into one of man's most primal fears: being hunted. In Slender, you are alone, helpless, and constantly at risk. There is no resting, no safety, no weapons, no defense. The fact that Slender man is an intelligent stalker (he hides, for example) and becomes more persistent the more pages you acquire really puts you on the edge of your seat. Really though, the candle in the cake is not knowing what is hunting you. Slender man defies explanation and reasoning.
