Human beings take delight in all patterned activity: music, wallpaper, sport, even not walking on the cracks in the pavement. Noticing patterns releases serotonin (the pleasure hormone) in our brain. Nobody is sure why this is so, but it probably makes learning pleasurable for us (learning in many cases is noticing patterns, and then noticing exceptions to them).
