The Sawtry Angel was only present for a short while in 1998. It was located at the top end of the roadworks at Sawtry when the new 4 lane A1(M) was being built. It was on the left hand side of the southbound carriageway, and consisted of a scaffolding plank nailed horizontally across a wooden telegraph pole. It carried a notice saying something along the lines of "Angel Of The North £750,000 Sawtry Angel £1.50" When the Angel of the North was briefly decorated with a large Alan Shearer Newcastle United black and white football shirt, the Sawtry Angel was decorated with a Peterborough United Blue shirt. It brought many a smile to the passing drivers. I only wish I had the camera with me.
