A photographer should enjoy talking with people and should have good communication skills. Photographers should also be skilled with computers and able to work with digital and film prints.
A good camera with tons of film and an idea what true beauty is.
The CMOS Digital camera is a good choice for a novice photographer because it is pretty basic and simple to use. I actually prefer Canon cameras though, because they are very user friendly and even with more options available on them, the cameras made by Canon are very easy to navigate through and perfect for a beginning photographer.

I know for me it was invaluable. I went to film school at Columbia in Chicago before the power of video was really used. I edited on film and shot on it as well. I sound old, but this was 10 years ago. Trying to catch up can be hard, but film school gave me great tools that I don't see being taught or used today. to be a photographer you have a choice on whether or not you want to go to school but to be good and to have a good reputation you probably should. to be a freelance photographer you don't really need any experience at all, all you need is a good eye, the proper equipment, and a good picture.
