It was created by constructing a 177 foot [54 meter] tall dam across the Suriname River. Because of the great area of the reservoir, villages had to be abandoned. Around 5,000 people were displaced. The government set up Operation Gwamba to save animals from the soon-to-be lake bed. Two, Brownsberg Nature Park is a paradise for birdwatchers. Of over 650 known birds in Suriname, over 250 are found here.Three, Central Suriname Nature Reserve [CSNR] in west central Suriname was created by Conservation International and the Republic of Suriname in 1998.
