The Greek god, Apollo, is the god of music, singing, poetry, and other acting related things, so I suppose it was to subtlety ask him for luck when the actors performed, or that they were dedicating their performance to Apollo

∙ 11y agoBack in the mid 1800's, there was an Apollo Hall created as a dance and entertainment venue. It closed, but the name didn't "go away" and was applied to the theater that took its place. Use the link below for more information. Actually the theatre was named after the greek god Apollo. The freemasons owned and built it and as most should know by now these people are obsesed with the occult.
Apollo was the Greek god of music and plays or theater. That's probably why it was named that.

∙ 10y agoNot after the Space program! Apollo was the Greco-Roman Sun God. His role may have been broadened into the Drama, also the Sun, is a Star ( Astronomical, not Hollywood usage). Had a classy- Greek Mythological sound.

Apollo was the name of the project that was attempting to get men to the moon. The program was named after the Greek god of light and music by NASA manager Abe Silverstein.
