The New Zealand flag is very like the Australian flag. The only noticeable differences are the absence of the "commonwealth star" and the fifth small star (epsilon crucis), and the fact that the stars on the New Zealand flag all have a red "core" surrounded by a white border.

There are some New Zealanders that feel that the Union Jack on our flag is no longer appropriate as we don't have the same links with Britain that we used to. There has been some discussion about a new flag but little consensus about what it should look like. Another issue is the New Zealand flag looks too similar to the Australian flag, and can be easily confused from a distance or by someone not familiar with the differences.
