Because the Bible is the story of Emmanuel, which means "God with us." From the creation to the return of Christ, the Bible tells the story of God with His people, leading them, correcting them, encouraging them, punishing them, loving them. I have heard it said that the Bible is "God's love letter to the church."

The Bible tells me how, from the very beginning, God prepared the world for Jesus, how Jesus showed us the face of God by saying, "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father," how He saved us in Jesus's sacrificial death, how and why God raised Jesus from the dead, and how the Holy Spirit has been with the church ever since to make us "the very presence of Jesus Christ in the world today" (to quote from the Reformed Church in America).

Without the Bible, I would not have any way of knowing what God has said to His people, of whom I am one. I would not have the prayers of the faithful, I would not know the words of Jesus, the promises of the future, the faith and the failures of the past that I do not want to repeat. So the Bible comforts, reassures, challenges, and promises me that God is with me, showing me the ways of righteousness in a world that is still so full of darkness and sin. The Bible tells me how and why I am important to God. And that means everything to me.

The Bible is important to individual followers of Christ because it is considered the authoritative word of God. It serves as a guide for living a spiritually fulfilling and righteous life, providing teachings, wisdom, and encouragement. Through the Bible, believers gain understanding about who God is, how to have a relationship with him, and how to navigate life's challenges.

Jesus Christ's followers were the 'inventors', or rather, 'creators' of Christianity. Jesus, a Jew, said that he was the son of God, and the savior/messiah.
