President Roosevelt of the U.S stated;"In the Grand canyon , Arizona has a natural wonder, which as far as I know, is in kind absolutely unparralleled throughout the world." Therefore it is reasonable to think, supported by this evidence that indeed the Grand canyon is the most popular canyon. Note: This can also be a matter of opinion

A site can be listed as world heritage site if it is confirmed by UNESCO and nominated by somebody. Also it has to make an affect to the world like if we loose this site it does a damage to our world
The Grand Canyon was listed as a heritage site on the 21st of October 1833. I also believe it was listed is because it was a big part of America's history as the Native Americans lived there for a very long time. Hope this helps ;)
