In history class, the Mayflower Compact is often compared to government today because it is the first example of self-government. Law by people is the heart of democracy and the American government.

Laws today are formal and enforced effectively and to a larger population. They also meet different needs then the Mayflower Compact. The Mayflower Compact was crearted so everyone would be doing work and listening to an appointed leader so they could survie. Our laws are so we cant thrive not just to survive.
