There are a few things that could cause this, your thermostat could be bad, you could have crossed and touching wires on the low voltage side, also your fan relay could be sticking all of which would require a technician.

Does an air handler help cut down on residential energy costs?

If your air handler has an Energy Star label and a high SEER rating it will help cut down on your energy costs. The higher the rating, the more energy it will save. All HVAC units include an air handler to circulate the air whether it's hot or cold. The air handler is the part found indoors. Without it your air conditioning unit isn't really doing anything for you as the cold air isn't getting where you want it.

What is objective of air handling unit?

An air handler, or air handling unit (often abbreviated to AHU), is a device used to condition and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. Usually, an air handler is a large metal box containing a blower, heating and/or cooling elements, filter racks or chambers, sound attenuators, and dampers. Air handlers usually connect to duct work that distributes the conditioned air through the building, and returns it to the AHU. Sometimes AHUs discharge (supply) and admit (return) air directly to and from the space served, without ductwork.Small air handlers, for local use, are called terminal units, and may only include an air filter, coil, and blower; these simple terminal units are called blower coils or fan coil unit. A larger air handler that conditions 100% outside air, and no recirculated air, is known as a makeup air unit(MAU). An air handler designed for outdoor use, typically on roofs, is known as a packaged unit (PU) or rooftop unit (RTU)

What is a HVAC leak?

It could be several things. duct system leaking meaning air is leaking from the connection points of the sheet metal that distributes the air throughout your home. Or it could be a refrigeration leak that carries the freon from the outdoor condensing unit to the evaporator coil that is on top of your air handler or furnace.

What is the cost to replace 5 ton air conditioning unit?

I have investigated this same question in various ways. Basically, an approximate cost about $3200 to $3700 depending on the make and model selected. This amount is for a split system (air handler and condensing unit). You could buy the unit from a wholesaler, install the unit statically and only hire an HVAC contractor for the final connections. This would be the most inexpensive solution.

What part of an HVAC system switches the unit from air conditioning to heat and heat to air condtioning?

In HVAC (heating, ventilating, air conditioner) A thermostatic switches the unit from cooling to heat. In Heat pump unit it's the four-way valve or reverse valve. However, the thermostatic still controls it.

If a house is sold without an HVAC unit what does that mean?

It means that it does not have an air conditioner or furnace installed. HVAC stands for "heating, ventilating, and cooling". HVAC is an integrated system that is not free standing, like a window air conditioner or heater.
