I think that depends on how you play. If you prefer brawn, choose a warrior or pirate. If you like cool skills, I would choose thieves or magicians. For range, choose a bowman or pirate. Pirates have both ranged and strong attacks depending on what you choose.

Warriors are really basic, and you don't need much MP. Bowman and Gunslingers are good for ranged attacks, but suck at close combat and you need to buy bullets and arrows. Magicans have high MP but incredibly low HP. Thieves are ideal but expensive. Arans have good skills but are repetitive, not to mention low MP for those skills. Evans do high damage, but they have SLOW MP recovery.
