I have just replaced the rear shoes on my 2002 focus (I believe the set up is different? so this may not help). But afterwards my ABS light was on. My problem turned out to be the fact that I hadn't reconnected the RHS speed sensor connector that is used by the ABS system! I had a sneaky suspicion because the connector didn't fully engage back together and 'click' but at the time my fingers were tired and my back was stuff! but it had engaged mostly! When I reconnected last night - fully - the ABS light went out this morning when I reached about 20mph - phew........................job done.
There is an article on this site detailing the removal and installation of the rear brake drums on the Ford Focus. Check the related link
i had a similar prob but it was related to the brake booster. it is a cylendrical device that creates brake pressure and when deffective causes the brakes to be engadged and causes brake wear and slow gas mileage and warpping of brake drums and excessive wear of brake pads..... often over-looked.
Changing Focus was created in 1997.
Not completly off, you will be able to lift the caliper off, but it will still be connected to the brake-fluid hose ;) then you pop off the pads and twist back the brake piston, and There you go :)

On a 2001 Ford Focus : The brake fluid reservoir is used for the brake and clutch systems
It is pretty easy. The front pads have a special clip that has to be clipped on the caliper. The rest is just as easy as changing any car's front pads.
The kind in a can.
It's a 2.0 liter ( 4 cylinder )
