The Buddha is directly important to: Buddhists, Hindus, New Age Religions, and Catholics each for different reasons. The Buddhists live according to the wisdom from the teachings of Siddhartha Guatama (Buddha's actual name) from when he lived. Hindus acknowledge him as an extension of the Hindu religion and respect that he was born a Hindu prince. New Age religions appreciate the focus on peace within and without and the expansion of mind and spirit. Catholics because he is listed amongst the Saints as a man who lived separate from sin.
