Because unlike solids and liquids, gasses expand to fill any space they are given. This means that the same amount of gas (same amount of matter) can fill up any volume. The equation for density is Mass/Volume and if the volume isn't constant, there can't be just one density for each mass of a gas.

How does density affect the position of different liquids in a container?

after you let several liquids (each with a different density) sit in a container for a while, the greater the density, the farther down the liquid is in a container

If you pour different liquids into a graduated cylinder the liquids will form layers based upon differences in their?

Density.

What happens if you mix together liquids that have different densities?

The liquid with the higher density will stay down while the one with the lower density will rise up, thus stratifying the liquids into different layers.

What will happen to the liquid with the lowest density?

In a mixture of different liquids, the one with the lowest density will float to the top.

Three liquids with different are dumped into a glass What do you expect to see?

They form individual layers depending on their densities...the liquids with lighter density floats on liquid with heavier density......

Why would four differently colored liquids in a jar show the liquids do not mix and so the colors remain separate?

The greatest density would be the bottom and the lowest density at the top, because the liquids have different densities.

How are liquids mass and liquid volume different?

Mass = Volume x Density

How can liquids be separated density?

Liquids can be separated by the density difference by centrifugation.

Why do liquids have different density?

certain molecules are more tightly packed than others

The image below shows a jar containing four different liquids, each a different color The liquids do not mix, so the colors remain separate Which of these liquids has a density greater than that of?

red clear blue

Why do liquids show varied densities?

Because liquids are different substances or mixture of substances; each chemical compound (substance) has a specific density.
