Starch is a complex carbohydrate therefore it cannot be used and is insoluble unless it is broken down. Also the body requires glucose for important metabolic functions (respiration) to provide energy for the body, starch cannot be used for this process.
Starch is very complex
We have no idea
glucose.

Enzymes
glucose, eventually
Hydrolysis is involved in maltose to glucose digestion. Maltose, a starch, gets hydrolyzed into a couple remains of glucose in this carbohydrate digestion.

Starch is a large macromolecule, so needs to be broken down into simple sugars which can be absorbed into the blood stream
digestion
It doesn't ---------------------------------------- Not sure where that guy ^ got his information, but in Biology 11 you learn that it DOES. Starch is turned to glucose during chemical digestion, and it begins in the mouth. ---------------------------------------- I'm in year 9 and I know that!
The main function of maltose is to digest starch . Starch is commonly used in plants to store glucose and maltose will serve as the intermediary product of the digestion of starch.
Because it breaks the food up that your eating I think
