In the later coat of arms of Great Britain these lions are still there, and added are two animals holding up the shield, the British lion (again) and the Scottish unicorn. The unicorn was considered a ferocious and extremely wild beast, and traditionally featured on the Scottish coat of arms. It stands for 'strength'.
