One reason is that conservative groups believe it is "Playing God" to clone a human, and view that as immoral. Additionally, there is fear of what is known in the literary genre of Science Fiction as the Frankenstein Syndrome; in a nutshell, if you build a monster, it will kill you. There is the very real and legitimate concern that not enough is yet known about the science of cloning that very serious mistakes could be made that might result in even more serious consequences.

The reason people are so critical about this particular subject is because cloning is artificial and not made they way that it's intended. Think of it as artificial ingredients instead of natural ingredients. Side by side, the natural just seems more pure and it tastes better. Same with creation.
