The metric system is used because people worldwide feel that it is the best way. Everything is based on 10 so it is easy to work with. In the US, we are stuck with the old English measurements like pounds, inches, feet, miles, etc. Even the English have gone to the metric system except for their money. At least (in the US) we have money based on 10.
